Happy New Year!
With the holidays behind us, and a new year underway, January can be a time for goal setting and taking control. Whether it’s holiday cleanup, tackling long-standing piles of clutter, organizing paperwork, or integrating other new priorities into your routine, getting organized might just be your first step.
Creating order not only feels good, but new research confirms it’s good for you too. Tidy spaces are correlated with healthier eating, fitter bodies, higher personal efficiency, and less anxiety and stress.
Conversely, messy spaces can take a toll on organization, increasing distraction, challenging decision-making, and even reducing memory capacity. Worse, cluttered environments are linked to poorer overall health, including higher cortisol levels, impulsive eating, and sleep problems. Oof.
When it comes to clutter, the science is clear: the calmer your spaces, the better you feel and function.
Staying tidy and organized isn’t always easy; in fact for many it’s downright hard especially if you are already feeling distracted, tired, or stressed. But, it is also true that making the changes you want in your life are simpler, and arguably easier, when your spaces are organized.
To help combat the most common headwinds to organization - procrastination, inertia, and anxiety - I’m sharing a few articles that include key insights and science-backed tools to help you take control of the projects you want to accomplish this year with less stress and anxiety.
